Pierluigi Calanca is a senior scientist at Agroscope
Reckenholz-Tänikon, formerly the Swiss Federal Research Station on
Agroecology and Agriculture. He received his master degree and PhD from
the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). A
climatologist by education and training, his main fields of interest
include global climate change, agroecosystem ecology, and soil water
dynamics. Most of his current work is dedicated to the development and
application of mechanistic ecosystems models to the assessment of
climate change impacts on agroecosystems. He is involved in several
national and international programmes, including of the National Centre
of Competence in Research on Climate (NCCR Climate), NitroEurope IP (EC FP6 programme), and CarboEurope IP (EC FP6 programme). He serves as an expert on agricultural meteorology to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in Geneva, and to the Swiss Advisory Body on Climate Change. He is a member of the European Drought Centre (EDC). He has a participation in COST 627 (Carbon Storage in European Grasslands).
