Josef Eitzinger was born 1962 in
Vöcklabruck/Austria, he studied agriculture at the University of
Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna, specialised in
plant production. graduation (Dipl.-Ing.): 1989, PhD: 1987; 2003
habilitation for agrometeorology at the University of Natural Resources
and Applied Life Sciences Vienna; since 2003 professor for
agrometeorology at the same university. From 1998-1999 he was Visiting
Scientist at Natural Ressource Ecology Laboratory, Colorado State
University on a project titled „Improvement and validation of an
agroecological model for specified climatological regions“ supported by
the Austrian Science Foundation.
Activities:
His
research topics include bioclimatology, biometeorology and
agrometeorology, crop modeling, climate variability and change; climate
change impacts on crop growth and development; influence of climate
variability and change on ecosystems; adaptation measures in
agriculture under climate change; agroclimatology; remote sensing
applications in agrometeorology. He is/was involved in and leading
several national and international scientific projects related to
agrometeorology and agroclimatology; publicated about 30 peer reviewed
journal articles, 40 contributions to international conferences, and
many other scientific publications. Supervision of 5 Masters, 9 PhD
theses, 5 scientific fellows from other countries.
Functions:
Beside
others, he is a member of the WMO RA VI Commission for Agrometeorology
(CAgM) Expert Team on “Impact of Climate Change Variability on Medium-
to Long-Range Predictions for Agriculture”; Founding member of
International Society of Agrometeorology (INSAM).
