the field of remote sensing and GIS applications in agrometeorology,
hydrology and environment protection.
The main research themes in his scientific activity are:
- Image data processing and interpretation for the thematic classification;
- Determination of “in situ” spectral signatures of natural objects and correlation with the data obtained from the remote sensing data;
- Radiometric correction and scene calibration methods for high and medium resolution image data;
- Introduction of the remote sensing techniques in the investigation and evaluation of the agricultural crops;
- Assessment and surveying the water resources by remote sensing;
- Use of the Earth Observation data for the improving the forecasting and warning of meteorological and hydrological dangerous events;
- Integration of remote sensing data in Geographical Informational Systems (GIS) dedicated for: snow-cover water resources evaluation, morpho-hydrografical changes due to anthropogenic factors, environmental monitoring.
13. Professional experience:
Since
1991 to 2005, Dr. Gheorghe STANCALIE was the Head of the In the Remote
Sensing & GIS Lab of National Institute of Meteorology &
Hydrology, in Bucharest and where there are sustained efforts underway
concerning with satellite and GIS-based applications related to:
processing and disseminating products to the forecasting services, the
evaluation and monitoring of the snow cover water resources at the
level of hydrographical basins, vegetation state monitoring for
agricultural crops in the conditions of hydric and thermic stress,
applications related especially to dangerous and damaging
meteorological and hydrological phenomena.
Since 2005 Dr. STANCALIE is the Executive Director for Technology and IT of the National Meteorological Administration.
